FOCUS: Give students of every age and ability the opportunity to meet and learn from real employers from the local area to have a lasting impact on their future ambitions and learning.

1,250 Bradford Academy students right across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 took part in a range of interactive activities to inspire them about the working world, no matter what career they're thinking of pursuing.

Students speed-networked with 25 businesses from sport and leisure, law, engineering, automotive, retail, creative media, transport, telecommunications, hair and beauty, finance and professional services in an interactive careers fair for all year groups. Representatives from businesses such as Transpennine Express, Northern Powergrid, Appris, Bradford City Football Club, JCT600 and Northern Gas Networks gave students a practical insight into the roles available and career paths they could follow.

The day also included an Interview Practice session for Year 11 students who were able to hone their skills one-on-one with business volunteers from around the region before receiving written feedback to be able to take them forward. Yorkshire Building Society also hosted mini workshops for students focusing on top interviewing tips.

Year 10 students were also treated to a series of eight engaging enrichment workshops from Yorkshire Building Society and Mitie to freelance illustrator, Tom Woolley. Each workshop was designed to make students think more broadly about the skills they are developing in and outside of school and how to channel those skills for a successful future.

 Results

  • 93% of the students that took part said it helped them have more focus for the future
  • 95% of the Year 11 students said the Interview Practice made them feel more confident about talking to employers
  • 94% of the Year 10 students said the workshops improved their self-belief

"I have learnt that if I put my head down I will get where I want to in the future. I'll reach my goal and that I have to have more confidence with speaking to people."
