aspire2work: Get That Job Day
FOCUS: Help learners understand the recruitment and application process with practice and feedback with business volunteers
17 learners from Aspire-igen and The Works took part in an employability themed day at The Works, Leeds. The session focused around the application process – the difference between essential and desirable criteria, how you can show employers how you’ve applied transferable skills and how to make an impression with your CV and covering letter – before moving on to a practical session on interview skills where learners answered questions before receiving personalised feedback from their business volunteer.
Volunteers were all directors from Northern Powergrid, many of which commented on the learners as well as their positive and mature attitudes. One of the interviews lasted for 45 minutes, prompting a thoughtful feedback discussion with the group on how to learn from valuable feedback.
